Why Inverness?

Inverness is the Capital of the Highlands. Over the last number of years, Inverness has become even more famous with the films 'Loch Ness', 'Braveheart' and 'Rob Roy' being filmed nearby. The town is also only one hour and fifteen minutes from London by air. In the town centre the main train station, with regular links to Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh, is only fifteen minutes from Alban House.

Activities:

There is so much to do in and around Inverness and, as you are on the door step to the Highlands of Scotland, it offers a great base to explore some of Scotlands hidden secrets.

Nessie Hunting - go down monster spotting or simply enjoy the scenery around the edge of Loch Ness. If you are keen on fishing, the area offers some of the best salmon rivers in Scotland.

For the golfer, the local courses are abundant; Narin, Dornoch to name but a few offering some of the most scenic courses in Scotland.

Just outside Inverness is the historic Culloden battlefield, scene of the 1745 Jacobite rebellion.
There are also memories of Oliver Cromwell. If you like to step back in time you can visit Cawdor Castle, Urquhart Castle, Dunrobin Castle, Dunvegan Castle on the Isle of Skye and Castle of Mey (residence of H.M. Queen Mother). You can also take advantage of the Castle Trail to the east of Inverness in the Grampian region.

Skiing - Aviemore is 35 minutes' drive down the A9. Walking - enjoy the many hills and forest walks in the area.
The Scottish Whisky Trail is a must if you are visiting and if you like a tipple; just make sure that you have a driver as you get shown round the various distilleries!
